Cooking with…Parsley?

I found a recipe for veggie bones for dogs and it calls for 3 cups of finely chopped parsley. I am just wondering if parsley is safe for all dogs?

Hi Mulletgurl,

Thank you for your great question.

Yes, parsley is safe for most dogs when used with moderation (in small amounts). One of parsley’s effects is that it acts as a diuretic, which means that the kidneys will produce more urine. If your dog has any degree of kidney failure, then check first with your vet before starting any parsley supplementation.

If you are going to feed parsley to your dog, make sure to chop or grind it up into fine pieces. Large pieces of parsley may not easily digest and could cause vomiting or other gastrointestinal upset.

Good luck!
